We are currently collecting old spectacles and hearing aids for recycling. Our collection point is in the Gateway Building in Ringwood.

Collecting Point at Ringwood Gateway

We offer our sincere apologies because we had to cancel our Car Boot Sale in Ringwood on Easter Monday.

We tried our best to let people know but unfortunately, some of you came along to the Car Park where you were met by members of our Lions Club.

Thank you for your understanding.

As it turned out the weather has remained dry, but we had to go by the weather forecast on Saturday and took the decision to cancel to save any expenses that we would have incurred.

 Santa at the Meeting House

Ringwood & Fordingbridge Lions would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along to see Santa at the Meeting House in Ringwood on Saturday. We raised a substantial amount of money that will be divided between The Lions Brain Tumour Research, Teenage Cancer Trust and other Lions Charities. Your generosity is very much appreciated.

A fitting tribute to Lion YorkyTribute to Yorky

Lion YorkyTuke, one of the longest-serving members of the Ringwood & Fordingbridge Lions Club, and one of the longest-serving District Officers for Youth in this area has been awarded the Bert Mason Memorial Trophy.

The trophy was presented to him by the Immediate Past District Governor, Lion Dave Ebsworth, at their Club meeting held at the Trinity Church in Ringwood. Lion Yorky was nominated for this award by his peers because of his continued outstanding participation in his Club and the District's contribution to working with youth. Lion Yorky has worked tirelessly, promoting the Young Ambassador project which seeks to recognise young people in District 105SC who have made and continue to make an exceptional contribution to the lives of people in their local communities.

Making the presentation Lion Dave said: "0ver the years I have got to know Yorky and he is a kind, generous man for whom nothing is too much trouble. . . and he has been the driving force behind the Young Ambassador programme in our District."

Lion Yorky is pictured on the front page of this edition holding the trophy, together with his wife Dot who helps him and the Club with all their activities and who received a Certificate of appreciation from Club President, Lion Phil Gregory.

Lion Bert Mason was the International President in 1984, the only Lion from Britain to attain that distinction. The trophy was dedicated to his memory and is awarded to one person in the United Kingdom each year for services to youth.

The Big Thank You

Air Ambulance Photo

Thank You!

Ringwood and Fordingbridge Lions were pleased to present a donation to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance of £300 to say thank you for all of their wonderful work. The presentation was made by Lion President Phil Gregory and Lion Rosemary Gregory on a visit to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance base at Henstridge Airfield.

This was a very special visit for Lion President Phil Gregory as it was an opportunity for him to say a big thank you to the crew led by Dr Phil Hyde that helped keep him alive in August 2022. Lion Phil was flown by air ambulance from Weymouth Rugby Club to Royal Bournemouth Hospital Cardiac unit following a cardiac arrest whilst on a visit to the town.

Lion Phil and his family will be forever grateful to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance team.

Lions Roar Winners 2022

Our Congratulations go to Frankie Gray, Molly Castle, Sophia Webb and Jamie Turnbull at Fordingbridge Junior School who reached the finals last year with their idea, Social Litter. See their video presentation and winning submissions here.

We are grateful to Will McKeller, the Design and Technology Teacher from Fordingbridge Junior School who helped coach teams at the school to participate in last year's competition and all the children and staff at the school who participated. Their designs and presentations were imaginative and thoughtful.

The Lions Roar 2023 Competition is now open for applications from all Junior Schools and Ringwood & Fordingbridge Lions Club will meet the entrance costs (usually £170.00) for the first four schools who register their interest with us on a first come first served basis. There are teacher packs, predesigned lesson plans and videos to make it as easy as possible for schools to help their children think big and be creative.

This is an inspirational and fun learning experience, enabling your students to discover how to use their imagination in exciting new ways, learn how to work in teams, develop their communication and presentation skills and boost their self-confidence and self-esteem. Fully prepared lesson plans are available that cover a number of different areas of the curriculum for KS2 including literacy, maths, science, Design Technology, Citizenship and PSHE.

Please watch these two short videos, which show the value of ROAR to your children and school.

Local Lions Visit Fordingbridge Food Bank - World Food

Day: Sunday 16 October 2022

Foodbank Visit

World Food Day is observed on Oct. 16 annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of the United Nations Food And Agriculture Organization (FAO) which came into being in 1945. The global event seeks to create a world without hunger, poverty, and malnutrition and raise funds to meet the lapses in the overall food supply chain system. In recognition of this day members of the Ringwood & Fordingbridge Lions Club (Rosemary, the club secretary on the left of the picture, and Barrie, the club treasurer on the far right) visited the team at Fordingbridge Food Bank Distribution Centre to see how they are combatting hunger in our local community. Patricia and David pictured above (in the centre) help run the Fordingbridge Food Bank Centre from the back of the United Reform Church in the centre of Fordingbridge. It is a vital part of a network of local foodbank distribution centres that include Ringwood, and Verwood which are served by their central warehouse based in Ringwood. They are staffed by a cheery band of volunteers who work in conjunction with Citizens Advice to welcome and offer help to anyone locally in need of a food parcel. They greet their visitors with a broad smile, enthusiasm, empathy, and time to listen. They assess their immediate needs and provide this in the food packs provided. Wherever possible they provide guidance and help to those most in need in our community with a smile and over a cup of tea or coffee. Their service is invaluable. Referrals are no longer by way of a paper voucher system which an efficient electronic system has replaced. They are open 3 days a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:30. No appointment is necessary, and their door will always be open for a chat and a cuppa. The Club Vice President Stephen Sherring who accompanied Barrie and Rosemary commented that "the service being provided by our local foodbank is essential for our local community. Everyone should have enough to feed themselves and their family and it is humbling to know that volunteers make themselves available to assist with such a worthy cause". Ringwood and Fordingbridge Lions Club are keen supporters of Ringwood Foodbank and all of its distribution centres and will be helping in their forthcoming Tesco Food Collection scheduled for the start of December. Please donate what you can in your local store where indicated and if you would like to find out more about Ringwood Foodbank then please contact them on 01425 600134 or by email at info@ringwood.foodbank.org.uk
