 The Stars Appeal

Stars Appeal Cheque Presentation

On 14 June 2012, Ringwood & Fordingbridge Lions Club presented their cheque for £5,000.00 to the staff at Salisbury Hospital.  The donation went towards the £350,000.00 needed by the Stars Appeal to create a place at the hospital where parents and siblings can stay overnight and be close to their babies born prematurely or critically ill.  The club President, Barrie Richardson, said that "the new accommodation unit is a wonderful new facility that will provide a lifeline to new parents from Ringwood, Fordingbridge and beyond at a tremendously difficult time".

At least 1 in 10 new babies born at Salisbury Hospital are born too sick, too small or too soon and therefore need additional care provided on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  These babies, who can weigh less than a bag of sugar and fit in the palm of your hand, need all that modern technology can offer.  But most of all the love, care, and attention provided by mums, dads, and siblings is key to a speedy recovery.

Work at the new family accommodation unit was completed late in 2012 with space for up to six families.  It will provide much-needed accommodation and support for families with babies spending weeks or months in intensive care making a very difficult situation more bearable.  It will mean that these families can be together more when they need each other the most.  Why not get involved and contact us for more details about this or any of our other projects
